The Garden Route
Soaring high above the tranquil town of Knysna, on South Africa’s famed Garden Route, is a headland offering breathtaking ocean and lagoon views. On this clifftop nestles Pezula Private Estate, home to the magnificent Pezula Resort Hotel, which opened its doors in February 2005, giving discerning travellers an exclusive luxury experience.
This 78-suite luxury hotel houses world-class features including a spa and a gym. The spa is designed to reflect the natural surroundings of the estate, Knysna’s lush forests and the rolling waves of the Indian Ocean. Sporting greats such as Nick Price, Jonas Bjorkman, Roger Federer and Graeme Smith have all bought land on the estate, adding to the exclusive feel of the resort.
Pezula Resort Hotel has been developed with the utmost respect for the environment. Where most developments use a greater majority of land for building purposes, Pezula Private Estate has used only 10 percent. The remaining hectares of ancient forest area have been treated with extreme care, and the forest is being reseeded with indigenous trees.
The very finest fresh local ingredients and organically grown produce are prepared under the supervision of executive chef Geoffrey Murray. Served in the delightful surroundings of Zachary’s restaurant, the globally inspired cuisine is complemented by an impressive 5000 bottle wine cellar.
The Pezula Resort Hotel boasts a tennis academy with qualified instructors. An 18-hole championship golf course, cricket academy, swimming pools and world-class spa and gym complete the sports facilities.
Explore the magnificent scenery on horseback, set off on one of the estate’s many hiking trails, or wander through the impressive botanical gardens. And if that seems like too much activity, just kick back and spend a day on the private beach, enjoying a champagne picnic.
Each facet of the hotel interior invites a moment to sit, relax and enjoy the company of companions and new acquaintances offering a champagne and whiskey bar, a cigar bar, a library and games room and central and front lounges
Boasting 80 suites, and one presidential suit, the interiors exude warmth, with stone and wooded textures. Welcoming earth tones create an unexpected contrast to the colours of the surrounding landscape. In all suites, sandstone forms a backdrop to the real log fireplaces, while marble is prevalent on many floors, patios and balconies.
The suites have individual climate control, satellite television, DVD player, electronic safe, direct telephone, computer and internet access, each has a pantry kitchen with deli snacks and a well stocked drinks cabinet. Each has spectacular views across either Golf Course, Indian Ocean or Knysna Lagoon.

Sparrebosch Clifftop Estate in Knysna is home to the spectacular Pezula Golf Course. The only serious problem that you could face when playing at The Pezula Championship golf course is running out of film for your camera! Pezula, without doubt, possesses one of the best locations on the African continent. This golf course is situated on the East head of Knysna, overlooking the Indian Ocean , Knysna lagoon and the Outeniqua Mountain range. It is also in the heart of the famous Garden Route .
The course's designers, Ron Fream and David Dale (Golfplan USA ) have compared the look of Pezula golf course to that of Gleneagles in the Scottish Highlands and Pebble beach on the Monterey coastline. A terrain of rolling fairways, fynbos and eyebrow bunkers does, however, make it very difficult to walk this course but don't panic, as golf carts are provided for all golfers!
The five different tee options on every hole cater for all skill levels. No two challenges, or views, are alike. The signature holes are the three holes built on the cliff top overlooking the ocean; the par-five 13th, par-four 14th and the par-three 15th. The par-four 14th is particularly challenging - it is short and requires you to lay-up before firing at the pin. The green is completely surrounded by bunkers so be careful not to overshoot out-of-bounds and over the cliff!
